Systems Engineering focuses on how to design, integrate, and manage complex systems over their life cycles. It aims to ensure that that the outcome of a technical project meets requirements and that these requirements satisfy stakeholders' needs. It focuses on designing and managing the parts, their interfaces, and their collective behavior in a way that produces the intended outcome. Systems Engineering Essentials is a five-day workshop, integrated case-study-based class. This foundational course provides a solid comprehension and applications of systems engineering concepts, tools, and techniques. It enables the participant to discover a wealth of valuable, flexible best practices that they can use in any complex technical project. We aligned this course with the best practices, and formal methods of systems engineering that have emerged since the 1950s and have been codified in many standards and handbooks, including:

  • NASA Headquarters. NASA Systems Engineering Handbook, NASA/SP-2007–6105 Rev 1. Military Bookshop, 2007. ISBN: 9781780391380.
  • INCOSE. Systems Engineering Handbook: A Guide for System Life Cycle Processes and Activities. 4th ed. Wiley, 2015. ISBN: 9781118999400.
  • ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288:2015, Systems and Software Engineering—System Life Cycle Processes.

These standards are beneficial in giving structure and consistency to the systems engineering process. In this class, we will learn about the most important standards and the major steps and methods that support the design and management of complex systems.

This course delves into the fundamental concepts of systems thinking and analysis, providing students with the tools and techniques to approach complex problems holistically. Participants will explore the principles of systems theory, learn to model and analyze systems and gain insights into applying systems thinking across various disciplines. Attendees will develop a deep understanding of systems thinking and its practical applications through lectures, case studies, and practical exercises.

The Requirements Engineering course provides a comprehensive exploration of the principles, processes, and techniques involved in eliciting, documenting, validating, and managing requirements for complex projects. Requirements are the foundation of successful systems engineering, and this course equips participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop clear, complete, and well-managed requirements that align with project objectives.

Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) has emerged as a cornerstone of modern systems engineering practice, revolutionizing how complex systems are designed, analyzed, and managed. We designed this intensive four-day course to equip professionals, engineers, and aspiring systems thinkers with the knowledge and skills needed to harness the power of MBSE. Through hands-on case studies and practical exercises, participants will understand MBSE principles, methods, and tools and learn how to apply them effectively to real-world projects. By the end of this course, participants will be ready to lead MBSE initiatives, enhance their career prospects, and contribute to more efficient, innovative, and successful systems engineering practices.
